Directions to Castlehaven

Niton is approximately 30-40 minutes by car from any of the Island ferry ports (Fishbourne, Cowes or Yarmouth). See the map below.

SATNAV POSTCODE PO38 2ND

NOTE: Castlehaven Lane is an unmade road and popular with pedestrians. For your own safety and that of others, please drive with care at a maximum speed of 5mph.

BE AWARE - ISLAND ROADS ARE DIFFERENT! This is particularly the case in the south and west of the Island. Roads around the more rural areas tend to be generally quiet but they can be narrow, winding and unpredictable in any weather. Please also be aware of our precious and varied wildlife: badgers, red squirrels, wild birds and rabbits, as well as horses and riders, are all prolific in our part of the Island, so please drive with caution.

St Catherine's Lighthouse

Just a short walk from Castlehaven is the Knowles Farm estate and site of the famous St Catherine's Lighthouse, built in 1838 it was one of the most advanced lighthouses of its day and one of the first in the world to run on electricity. Today the 27 metre structure which set in miles of unspoilt coastline is still an operational lighthouse and met office weather station.

Blackgang Chine

A favourite especially for young children is Blackgang Chine just outside Niton. One of the first holiday attractions of Great Britain Blackgang Chine has seen many changes over the years due to land slips and coupled with its natural beauty this makes it a unique fantasy park.

St. Catherine's Oratory

Can be reached by footpath which is opposite Blackgang Viewpoint car park. This is the second highest point on The Island at 237m {777ft} above sea level and makes for a wonderful walk.
